Fasting Let’s be honest – nobody likes to go without food (or our favorite other things in life)! In summary, fasting connects with the idea of denying oneself a need/pleasure of some kind for the purpose of focusing attention on prayer and/or other spiritual pursuits. Some people very intentionally fast for a single meal each week or for even a full day of the week or month. Fasting can also be more spontaneous in response to a given situation. As eluded to in the first line above, fasting can occur in a variety of ways other than food (i.e. television, social media, etc.) but, whatever the case, it is always intended to be met with an attitude and activities of personal devotion and sacrifice. Possible Action Steps: Examine your life to determine why and how you might want to engage in fasting. Fast for a meal or an entire day as you turn your heart and mind in the direction of prayer and reflection. Talk to someone you know who has practiced fasting to learn about their experiences. Engage in a Bible study about fasting to better understand this activity from a biblical perspective. Join RightNow Media
