SIM (Serving in Missions) - Ayutthaya Team
Mission Focus
SIM Thailand’s vision is “By faith we see the unreached of Thailand authentically responding to the Gospel and being discipled into biblically-based, community transforming churches that engage in mission.” With this vision, SIM Thailand started a team in Ayutthaya, Thailand. SIM Ayutthaya is a multi-cultural and multi-skilled team. Members come from different countries and cultures but are united by their response to the Great Commission. The team is currently focused in four main core ministries: Hope for Life (Ministry to the Underprivileged), Santisuk Church (Church Planting Ministry), AUR Community (University Students Ministry) and Joyful Heart Bilingual House (Language Teaching Ministry).
Reaching Ayutthaya
Ayutthaya is a city in Thailand that is 0.5% Christian. The SIM mission in Ayutthaya seeks to reach out to its neighbors in a variety of ways:
Hope for Life: This program includes English and life skill classes for children in the schools and on the temple grounds, as well as home visits to families.
Joyful Heart Bilingual House: These tuition-based language classes teach English and Mandarin in a structured setting. This enables the mission to reach a segment of the population who are more educated and/or financially able. In order to serve the Thai people well, the staff are dedicated to improving their Thai language skills. This allows them to be effective communicators with those that they are trying to reach. Additionally, understanding the Thai culture is vitally important to interacting well to build credibility and trust with those they seek to serve.
Church planting: Santisuk Church - A pastor and his wife work diligently to shepherd their small flock and draw others in.
Serving in local churches: The staff and global workers of the Ayutthaya team split up to attend four different local churches. Their goal is to become giving and serving members of these churches. By dividing up among different churches, they are able to build relationships between churches and to strengthen the church overall in Ayutthaya.
