What if there is not enough money committed to do the project?
We will tell the congregation the situation and see if there are further commitments. We will seek God’s direction and timing.
How long will this take?
This summer we will explain the project and give people time to pray and consider their giving. In mid-August we will request the congregation to make a commitment to give over and above regular giving for a period of one year, from September to September. As God provides, the work will be done during the summer of 2018 and completed by early August as school year ministries begin.
Hope Hall FAQs
Where will the walls be on all four sides?
The cinderblock walls behind the basketball hoops will stay the same. The posts on the north side (where entrance doors are) will be enclosed with a wall roughly 10 feet high. This will prevent people from catching a shoulder on a post that is sticking out. The south side wall (exterior wall) will match the current walls that extend to the ceiling. This is the deaconess closet on the left and the stairs down to Adult Central on the right.
Will sound absorbent panels be added?
Sound panels will be added to the cinderblock walls. If needed, it will be added to the drywall too.
Will sound proofing be added between the floor and Adult Central?
This is not included in the cost of the project right now. This is something that can be added later, whether during the project or after it is done.
Will there be a water fountain in the gym?
Yes. We will try to use the plumbing pipes that exist where the old baptistery was to add a water fountain in the gym.
Will we have closet space?
The deaconess closet will remain untouched. The wall enclosed on both the north and south side will allow for closet space. The chairs on the north side should be enclosed and out of sight. The square footage on the south side will be more than what is currently there.
Will the pass-through to the kitchen be Eliminated?
Yes, this provides kitchen space for a commercial dishwasher. It will also prevent kitchen noise from passing to Hope Hall.
Why a wood floor?
We think this is the best long term solution for the use of the space. It is used as a gym during every youth group and AWANA. We have men’s basketball, Fitness Champions and college/career group that use it as a gym. A wood floor is the best floor when it comes to safety and longevity. Modern gym floors allow for table set-up and all types of shoes, so to use as an eating area or a Sunday morning classroom is not issue. This also gives us the most flexibility within potential future ministries as we seek to continue to find ways to reach our community.
What about the leaking roof?
Our deacons are looking into a better solution to this problem. They hope to have fixes before we ever start our remodel.
Will there be a stage or a sound system?
Yes to both. We included a portable stage and sound system into the purposed price. The stage will allow for a lot of flexibility in set-up and size. We are working in designing a sound system to meet a lot of weekly needs as well as large group event needs. We desire to have a space that is more functional and flexible than ever before.
When will the remodel happen?
When the money comes in. In our ideal plan, as soon as regular ministry stops in Spring/Summer of 2018. This should allow it to be ready for Fall of 2018.
What are the main changes being proposed?
There will be new flooring and new cabinets that will be both functional and beautiful. The cabinet space will be more efficient with much more space. The work tables in the center will be retained, but the trash cans will be closeted. We will have a new commercial freezer, microwave, and dishwasher.
Why close up the serving window to Hope Hall?
Though the window is sometimes very useful, it allows a great deal of noise to pass through to Hope Hall, disturbing classes or programs. By closing the window we gain valuable cabinet space and have a long counter designed as an assembly line for clean-up. It will include a space for a cart of trays to be parked as dirty plates are dumped into a dump sink with disposer, then put directly into a commercial dishwasher and out again on the other side. The dishwasher takes about two minutes per load!
Why is it so expensive?
Commercial grade cabinets and appliances are made to stand up to hard use, and to last a long time. It costs more than home use.
Children's Area FAQs
We already have a playground. Why do we need a new one?
Installing a playground specifically designed for an indoor space will allow us to decrease safety concerns and increase how effectively we are using the space in the room. Our playground is a great outlet for kids to expend excess energy - which helps them to focus better in their classrooms. It also provides a fun and entertaining play space that can be used during childcare and other special events at the church.
Who will be able to use the playground?
Our current playground equipment is used for 3-6 year olds. Upgrading to proper equipment will allow us to use the playground room for a wider range of ages and also safely accommodate more children at one time. We’ll be installing equipment that is safe enough for our youngest preschoolers and sturdy enough for kids as old as mid-elementary.
What will happen when we outgrow our current space?
There are times when the kid’s department is quite full these days! That’s very exciting, but in thinking of the future it can also raise concern for space needs. We are thinking creatively about utilizing our current space better, restructuring grade and age breakdowns, and moving “traffic” into our 1st and 3rd hours (which are currently less full on Sundays). There has also been discussion of dividing the Music & Drama Room with a wall, which would allow us to use half of that room as additional classroom space for our oldest group of elementary school kids.
Which spaces in the kid’s department will be affected by a new theme or design?
Most of the highly visible spaces in the kid’s area will get a facelift with the implementation of a new theme (to be revealed at a later date). Yes, this will include Solar City.
What kind of new furniture will be going in the classes?
Appropriate sized chairs are the main concern. Chair size will be determined by which age group uses a classroom most often.
What will be included in the technology updates?
All classrooms will be outfitted with TV’s, DVD players and proper cabling/hookups. We will also install a new sound system in Solar City.
What efforts are being made to increase safety and security for the kid’s area?
Safety and security are some of our highest priorities in the kid’s department. We will adding a new centrally located welcome at the entrance to the kid’s department (the current check in desk will be removed). This desk will function as a welcome area for visitors with children, and also create a more controllable traffic flow. Smaller entry and exit points will allow us to make sure only necessary people are going in and that children are only going out with an authorized guardian. Additional check-in stations will be added and located throughout the building to relieve congestion at the entrance area of the kid’s department.
