Let's be completely honest with ourselves. Our lives move way too fast. We are over-scheduled, over-worked, over-committed, and over-stimulated. We have become dependent on coffee, Mountain Dew, and Red Bull to keep us going. Yet sadly, we seem to find enough time for everything but God. Sure, we go to church on Sundays and youth group on Tuesday nights, and we may even spend 10 or 15 minutes reading our Bibles a couple of days per week, but are we really spending quality time with God? This may sound harsh, but the reality is that business can really hold us back in our walk with God. There is an old saying that says, "If Satan can't make you bad, he'll make you busy." Let us not let Satan gain a foothold in our lives by allowing him to make us busy. Instead, let us slow down. Let us eliminate all the unnecessary business in our lives and replace it with stillness. Psalm 37:7a says, "Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him…" Again in Psalm 46:10 it says, "Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." God is longing to spend some incredible and intimate time with us, but we need to be still before Him first. So slow down. Stop. Take a deep breath. Be still. Take notice of God's presence around you in a beautiful sunset, a blooming flower, the songs of a Mockingbird, or the laughter of children playing. Find a quiet place and go to Him. Let the silence envelope you. Let His peace and joy pour over you. Let His Word nourish your soul and restore your life and energy, for God is far, far better for us than coffee and Red Bull.
