The end of the schoolyear is always bittersweet, isn't it? On one hand, school is out and summer vacation is beginning. On the other hand, you and your friends part ways for the summer, and you don't get to see them as much. The parting of ways is especially hard for those students who have graduated and are heading off to college. Thankfully, we have one thing that can ease the pain of parting ways with our friends: technology. Because of microchips and processors and all things digital, we can stay connected with those we love and care about. We can call them on our cell phones, IM them, email them, MySpace them, and even Xbox them. No matter the distance between us, we stay in touch. Why? Because we have a relationship with our friends that is valuable and we want to deepen that relationship and get to know each other even better by connecting with one another regularly.
In order to deepen our relationship with God, we need to connect with Him regularly as well. David was someone who passionately loved to connect with God. In Psalm 63:1 he wrote, “O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you…” Like David, may you thirst for God. May you long to spend time with Him. So how do we do that? By reading His Word and talking with Him often. Just you, your Bible, and God. Find a quiet place with few distractions, ask God to reveal Himself to you, and then read a passage from your Bible. After reading the passage, ask God to show you what He wants you to learn from that passage, and then slowly read it again. As your reading the passage again, take the time to really think about what God is saying to you through each verse. Finally, when you’re finished reading the passage, spend some time talking with God. In Jeremiah 33:3, God says, “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” Students: God longs to connect with you and show you incredible things about Himself through His Word! So go to Him often, just as you are. He loves you unconditionally, and He can’t wait to hear from you.
